The Women in White completely surprised me, in the best possible way.

When I first started it, I expected a haunting, atmospheric psychological thriller centered around an elderly woman in a creepy old house. Instead, I got something far richer: an intelligent mystery layered with psychology, hidden histories, and some genuinely compelling female relationships.

My favorite part of the entire book was Betty. I absolutely adored her. Her fearlessness, despite her age and everything she'd experienced, made her impossible not to root for. Watching her relationship with Riley develop was incredibly heartwarming, and by the end I was so happy these two had found one another. The mystery itself was so much fun. There isn't just one puzzle to solve—there are so many smaller mysteries woven throughout the story that kept me constantly questioning what was really happening. I especially loved trying to piece together the laboratory testing, the connection between the women, and what tied all of their stories together. I did figure out one major reveal involving Sandra at about the 70% mark, so that twist wasn't a huge surprise, but there were still plenty of satisfying reveals that kept me invested. I also loved the structure of the novel, moving between the past and present, slowly revealing pieces of the puzzle. The psychological themes were fascinating, especially the exploration of extraordinary mental abilities and whether those kinds of gifts could actually be developed through training. It's one of those books that leaves you thinking long after you've finished. Even Alex's storyline, though relatively small, added another intriguing layer to the novel. The writing is engaging, the pacing keeps you guessing, and the ending felt genuinely satisfying. It tied everything together while celebrating the power of connection, resilience, and the bonds between women. And if you're an audiobook listener, I highly recommend this one—the narrator absolutely elevated the experience. A smart, layered psychological mystery with unforgettable characters and a beautiful emotional core.
