Resau: The River Muse
3 Stars

A sweet, poignant love story with beautiful writing, likable characters, and a journey I genuinely enjoyed. The first 60% of the book was especially strong, offering a thoughtful and believable portrayal of the fears, uncertainty, and emotional turmoil someone might experience while trying to escape an emotionally abusive relationship.
I also loved the French setting and the beautiful mystery surrounding the river—it added such an atmospheric and almost magical quality to the story.
My biggest hangup was the return of Callie’s ex. Given everything she had experienced and how much she had done to escape him, his appearance felt surprisingly anticlimactic. I expected Callie to be much more terrified and panicked in that moment, and I found her reaction somewhat difficult to reconcile with her history.
That said, the writing is beautiful, the overall story is heartfelt, and there’s something genuinely warm and lovely about this book. A sweet read with a beautiful setting and an emotional journey at its heart.
