Jackson: The Shampoo Effect
3 Stars

The Shampoo Effect was such a fun, drama-filled read. I really enjoyed Fran and RJ’s relationship, especially Fran’s unapologetic hatred of sports, and their unconventional mushroom-and-gummy routine for managing life with kids genuinely made me laugh. I really related to the sport frustration. One of the book’s strengths is how it weaves together the complicated, messy lives of its individual characters. It captures so many different challenges people face, from relationships and family dynamics to the private struggles happening beneath the surface. There is always something brewing, and I found myself invested in seeing how each storyline would unfold. I was hooked from the beginning, although my interest dipped slightly around the 70% mark. Still, the ending pulled things together in a satisfying way, and I enjoyed seeing how the characters’ stories ultimately connected. Overall, this is a perfect summer read: entertaining, messy, funny, and full of juicy drama. It feels a little like reading an addictive tabloid or getting a peek into other people’s chaotic lives.
