Fortune: Our Perfect Storm

3 Stars
I really love Carley Fortunes writing, and I had high hopes for this book, but me end feelings was "Meh". Here’s the thing: I don’t love a friends-to-lovers scenario, especially when it’s the we’ve known each other our entire lives, lived together, and somehow need to be jilted and thrown into a faux honeymoon to realize our feelings kind. 😂
That said, I really tried to invest in the story, and overall, it was fun and definitely a page-turner. My biggest issue was the number of flashbacks. They were effective early on and helped build the story, but about halfway through, they started to feel more like filler than something that was moving the plot forward. And toward the end, there were letters from the past galore, and at that point, I felt like the story was dragging on and on. Honestly, I think this could have been about 100 pages shorter and been even more effective.
Bottom line: it was a fun, quick read, and I enjoyed the characters and the overall plot. I especially loved the storyline involving the mom, the complicated parent relationships, and the way the story explores how our past shapes who we become. I also really liked the idea of learning how to be fully yourself while still being in a relationship.
Not a new favorite for me, but definitely an enjoyable read!
